The Most Asked Questions

1.  Should I have the old roofing removed?

  • Yes!  This provides an opportunity to inspect the decking and to install new underlayments.  Plus, your new roof will look better and last longer.

2.  How will your company protect my property?

  • Like it was our own!  We do our best to protect your property while installing your new roof.

3.  As a homeowner, what are my responsibilities?

  • Replacing a roof is a dirty process.  Please remove all vehicles from your garage and cover all valuables in your attic.  We will take precautions outside, but there might be things you would want to move, cover or protect.  Also, keep in mind that your house, driveway and yard become our work zone.

4.  Do I need ice and water shield?

  • Ice and water shield is a crucial part of your roofing system.  According to the manufacturer, it should extend at least 2 feet within the heated wall of your home.  Ice and water shield is installed above gutters, in valleys, around chimneys, skylights and anywhere you need extra leak barrier protection.

5.  How about felt paper?  Is heavier better?

  • Felt paper is necessary, but with shingle application, heavier is not better.  Heavy felt is organic and can cause severe buckling and wrinkling.  Fiberglass felt, on the otherhand, lays flatter and eliminates the chance of having wrinkles telegraph through the newly placed shingles.

6.  Is attic ventilation needed?

  • Attic ventilation is extremely important, not only helping your home stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, but it also helps your roof decking and shingles last a long time.  Our estimators will examine what venting system will work best on your home.

7.  What else gets replaced?

  • Proper flashings are as important as your shingles.  Replacements include chimneys, valleys, and vents (attic vents, exhaust vents and plumbing vent covers).  Almost everything on the roof will be replaced with new products.

8.  I'm unsure of what type of shingle or color shingle to use on my home - will you help me choose?

  • We will gladly help you through the whole process.  Our showroom displays all different types and colors that are available.  You can also use the Virtual Home Remodeler to see what shingle typles and colors would look great on your home.

9.  How accurate are your estimates?  Should I expect my final price to be much different than what was originally quoted?

  • Our estimators are very accurate.  Only occasional decking replacement or added work requested by the customer after the final contract is written will affect the original price.

10.  I want to feel secure about who I hire to do my roofing project.  Is your company licensed?  Insured?  Certified?  What about a warranty?

  • Yes, we are state-licensed and are fully insured to cover both our employees and your property.  We also have the highest certifications from the shingle manufacturers themselves.
  • We offer the very best warranties available - from the manufacturer AND for workmanship.  Check out our warranty page for additional information.
